Overview
Customers ordering a custom cake often need to ask multiple questions before they can finalize their choices. For a small cake shop, answering these questions repeatedly can consume time that could otherwise be spent preparing orders.
Cake Amiga was designed to make the ordering process clearer before customers contact the shop. The website lets customers explore cake offerings, customize their selections, preview their choices, and send their completed order through Meta Messenger.
As the frontend developer, I built an interactive ordering experience that helps customers understand their options while allowing the business to continue handling orders through its existing messaging workflow.
The result is a lightweight, backend-free ordering experience designed around the practical needs of a small business.
The Challenge
The shop needed a way to present its cakes and ordering options online without introducing the complexity of a complete e-commerce backend.
Customers needed a convenient way to understand available options and communicate their preferences. Meanwhile, the shop needed to preserve its existing process for receiving and discussing orders.
The objective was to create a website that could make ordering more straightforward without requiring customers to navigate a complicated checkout or account-registration process.
The Solution
I developed a frontend-focused website that combines product presentation, interactive customization, and direct messaging into one ordering journey.
Customer experience
- Product presentation: Organized cake information and ordering options help customers understand what is available before contacting the shop.
- Interactive cake customizer: Customers can configure their cake selections and preview their choices before submitting an order.
- Order summary: A consolidated view of selected options makes the customer's intended order easier to review.
- Meta Messenger integration: Completed order details are handed off through Messenger, allowing the shop to continue its established customer communication workflow.
- Mobile-friendly browsing: The interface supports customers browsing and placing orders from their phones.
- Search engine optimization: A structured, search-conscious frontend helps present the shop's products and services online.
Architecture & Engineering Decisions
The central engineering decision was to avoid building a backend when the shop's existing messaging workflow could handle incoming orders.
- Backend-free architecture: The cake customizer and order-building experience run on the frontend, avoiding the need for a dedicated order-management backend.
- Messenger-based order handoff: Customers can transfer their order details into the shop's messaging workflow instead of using a separate account and checkout system.
- Interactive state management: Customization choices are organized into an order summary so customers can review their selections before continuing.
- Lightweight frontend: The implementation focuses on the customer-facing experience without the overhead of unnecessary backend services.
- SEO-conscious structure: The website is organized to support search discoverability while keeping the ordering experience straightforward.
Results & Business Impact
Cake Amiga focuses on reducing friction between discovering a product and communicating an order to the business.
- Approximately 80% fewer customer queries reported: Presenting product details and ordering options upfront helps address common questions before customers contact the shop.
- A clearer ordering journey: Customers can customize and preview their selections before sending an order.
- No dedicated backend required: The website uses the existing Meta Messenger workflow for order handoff rather than introducing a separate ordering backend.
- Less friction for mobile customers: Customers can browse products and configure their orders through a mobile-friendly interface.
- A practical solution for a small business: The shop gains an interactive online ordering experience without the additional complexity of a full e-commerce platform.
Why This Project Matters
A small business does not always need a complex e-commerce system to improve its online customer experience.
Cake Amiga demonstrates how thoughtful frontend engineering can solve a real business problem by helping customers understand products, customize their orders, and communicate their choices more clearly.
Rather than adding infrastructure the business did not need, I built around its existing workflow. The result is a focused solution that combines interactive design, practical automation of the ordering handoff, and search-conscious development to make online ordering more accessible for both customers and the shop.
